Smoky Mountain High School
September 10, 2010

Ford Motor Company and Andy Shaw Ford are partnering to help raise up to $6,000 in support of Smoky Mountain High School as part of the Drive One 4 UR School program. Members of the local Sylva community will have the opportunity to raise money for Smoky Mountain High School by test driving a Ford vehicle. The one-day event takes place on Friday, September 10, 2010 starting at 9am at Smoky Mountain High School. Ford Motor Company and Andy Shaw Ford will donate $20 to Smoky Mountain High School for every person from a unique household who test drives a 2011 Ford Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, Mustang, Taurus, Escape, Edge, Explorer, Expedition, Ranger F150 or F250. The organization will be using the proceeds for general school fund purposes.


NGO Aids Prevention Organization

There will be a benefit concert at the WHITE HORSE in Black Mountain on Monday, September 13th at 7 p.m. to benefit the NGO Aids Prevention Organization in Malawi.  Malawian musicians will be performing and proceeds will go the organization.  For more information contact

YWCA of Asheville

The YWCA of Asheville is seeking volunteers to serve as Race Marshalls for the Citizen Times ½ Marathon on Saturday September 18th. Project Challenge
Through September 17, 2010

Project Challenge is a program that works with court involved and at-risk kids in 33 counties and with the Eastern Band of the Cherokee. On September 18  they are having The Project Challenge Poker Run for Kids presented by Ghost Town Harley Davidson and in conjunction with the Carolina Harley Davidson Dealer Association, "Rally in the Valley" in Maggie Valley. Registration is $20 dollars the day of the event or $15 if pre-registered. Pre-registration is available at Annies Food and Spirits in Sylva, also at Rendezvous Poolside Tiki Bar located inside the Maggie Valley Inn and Conference Center or by phone at (828)765-0776.


Cliffs Valley Wellness Center
September 24 through September 26, 2010
The Cliffs’ 2nd annual NCAA Tennis Classic will take place Friday through Sunday, September 24-26th at the Cliffs Valley Wellness Cneter.  All proceeds from the tournament will help fund the Cliffs Residents Outreach, a volunteer-driven, not for profit agency which provides food, clothing and medical care and shelter to the children and their families in neighboring communities.  For more information contact Ernie Cloer at (864)660-1180.


Henderson County Travel and Tourism
September 25, 2010
The British Car Club of Western North Carolina will hold a car show on Saturday, September 25th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Jackson Park in Hendersonville.  The show will benefit Meals on Wheels.  The event will take place rain or shine.  Registration is 20 dollars per car.  The British Car Club of Western North Carolina has donated 20-thousand dollars to local charities over the past ten years.  For more information call 329-6786 or go to www.autumninthemountains.org.


First Baptist Church of Black Mountain

Chain-Free Asheville

The City of Asheville has adopted a law making it illegal to have dogs chained or tethered.  Chain Free Asheville is a local non-profit organization which builds fences for dogs if owners aren’t able to afford to pay for a fence themselves.  Donations and volunteers are still urgently needed.   For more information contact www.chainfreeAsheville.org or email peggyfordogs@aol.com.


MadisonCounty Farmers Market

Madison County Farmers Market on the Campus of Mars Hill College is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  There is a wide selection of local produce, grassfed beef, seafood, breads, jams, cheese, artisan crafts and much more.


Appalachian Regional Theatrical society

Fairview Elementary School

Fairview Elementary School, at 1355 Charlotte Hwy, is celebrating its 11th annual Fall Festival fundraiser on Saturday October 2 from 10am-3pm, rain or shine. The money raised goes directly back into the school to support student education. Come out and enjoy this great fair which includes: hayrides, carnival booths, inflatables, raffle baskets, games and prizes! Food and drinks are available for purchase. Unlimited passes for children, $12 each, are available at the school office prior to the festival.
